Oxen played extra minutes for second straight night....Scotians have no luck getting any closer to first in Rowe Division

The Windsor Oxen scored four times in the second period but still could not hold off the South Shore Lumberjacks in Bridgewater Saturday night, losing 5-4 in overtime.  The teams played to a scoreless draw in the opening period before the Oxen outscored the Lumberjacks 4-2 in the second period.  Nate Grafstein put the Lumberjacks up 1-0 before Nolan Fowler and Sammy Cochrane made it 2-1 Windsor.  Kyle MacIntyre’s power-play goal tied the game at 2-2 with 4:58 left in the second but only 37 seconds later Aidan MacLeod netted a short-handed marker for the Oxen to put them back in the lead at 3-2.  Kaden Kuryluk provided the Oxen with a 4-2 after forty minutes scoring with just 2:59 left to play.

 
In the third, the Lumberjacks got back into the game on goals from Cohen Westlake and Leo MacLean who netted the tying goal with a 1:22 left in regulation.
 
In the five minute sudden-death overtime period, Jackson Spraggon who the Lumberjacks acquired in a trade with the Brookfield Elks earlier in the week netted the overtime winner and give the Lumberjacks their 17th win in 21 games but still kept them six points behind the first place Capstone Colts.  The Lumberjacks outshot the Oxen 36-33. The Oxen who won in a shoot-out Friday night fell to 10-10-3 for 23 points.

In what has become virtually a year-long battle for first place in the Sid Rowe Division, the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles doubled uo the Pictou County Scotians 6-3 in a make-up game Saturday afternoon in Eskasoni.  The Jr. Eagles started strong opening a 4-0 lead in the first period on two goals from Kendrick Marshall and singles from Keegan O’Neill and Tyson LeFrense.  Wyatt Spence scored the lone goal of the opening period for the Scotians.
 
In the second Kyle Nearing made it 4-2 before Marcellus Francis and Sam Gracie made it 6-2 Eskasoni.  Porter McNamara tallied the lone goal of the third period for the Scotians who fell to 13-10-0 for 26 points compared to the Jr. Eagles record of 16-7-0 for 32 points.  The League’s Leading scorer Lane Lochad of the Scotians tallied a pair of assists for Pictou.  Pictou was outshot 49-24 with Eli James playing a strong game for the Scotians blocking 43 of 49 shots.

The Brookfield Elks scored the first and last goals of the game at home Saturday afternoon but in between the East Hants Penguins scored 6 to defeat the Elks 6-2 and improve to 14-7-1 for 29 points.  David McElheran and Ethan Lowe tallied for the Elks while for the Pens Jayson Hanson, Finley Diab, Connor Stewart, Logan Durno, Alex Field and Noah Comeau all registered markers for the winning Pens.  Diab, Durno, Field and Comeau all collected an assist to go along with their goals.  Chris Caissie added a pair of assists and Nik Xidos collected a trio of assists,  The Penguins outshot the Elks 55-31.

In Antigonish, the Bulldogs disposed of the Pirates with three goals in the first and third periods and a single marker in the second.  Owen Forsythe collected a pair for the Bulldogs while single went to Logan McGrath whose marker was short-handed, Cameron Bell, Will Normandeau, Daniel Chaisson who also netted a short-handed marker and Gavin Clarke.  Angus Berry scored his fourth in two games for the Strait and Josh MacDonald added
