Scotians still having trouble with last Jr. Miners, Lumberjacks record their 16th win of the seson.

Scotians still having trouble with last Jr. Miners, Lumberjacks record their 16th win of the seson.

The Pictou County Scotians now have a 13-9-0 record this season but the Jr. Miners from Membertou continue to fluster the living daylights out of the Scotians.  In five games to date in this 25-26 season, the Jr.Miners are now 2-2-1 against Pictou and have earned five of their nine points from the second place Scotians.  Pictou has won games by the scores of 5-4 in overtime, 6-4 and 12-1 while the Jr.Miners have won games by scores of 6-3 and 4-3.  The Scotians have outscored the Jr. Miners 29-19.

 
Saturday night’s game in Membertou went into sudden-death overtime before the Scotians escaped on a goal in sudden-death overtime from Lane Lochead to give Pictou their 5-4 margin of victory.
 
The Jr. Miners jumped in front early 1-0 on a goal from Garrett Macintosh before Wyatt Spence tied it at 1-1.  Brady Doucette put the Cape Breton Club up 2-1 before the 1st period was over.
 
In the second period  Wyatt Spence and Camden Burgess both scored to give the Scotians a one-goal lead before Brady Doucette was able to knot the game at 3 apiece entering the third.
Kyle Nearing put Pictou ahead 4-3 before Brady Matheson’s goal with 5:22 left in regulation sent the game to sudden-death overtime when Lochead potted the game winner for the 5-4 win.
 
Sam Maddison contributed three assists for the Scotians.  Besides the overtime winner, Lochead garnered a pair of assists.

Eskasoni concluded their Fox Division schedule with a 4-2-0 record after their win over the Elks Saturday afternoon in Brookfield.  The Jr. Eagles scored 16 goals against Fox teams this season while allowing 21.
 
In Saturday afternoon’s game, Brady Croft for the Elks and Arlen Denny tallied for the Jr. Eagles in the opening period.  Kendrick Marshall and Mitchell Gould who both added a pair of assists mad it 3-1 Eskasoni before Mitchell King brought the Elks back to within1 at the end of the second period.
 
In the third, the Jr. Eagles kept applying pressure as Noah MacKinnon scored twice and Zander Billard once to make the final 6-2 Eskasoni.  Brookfield surprisingly enough outshot Eskasoni 32-29.
 
 
South Shore   7        Sackville   4
 
The South Shore Lumberjacks got back on track at home Saturday evening as they sidelined the Sackville Blazers 7-4.
 
Xavier Rivard put th Blazers ahead 1-0 before the Lumberjacks countered with two of their one on goals from Brennan Coleman and Nate Person on the power-play.
 
In the second period, the Lumberjacks moved ahead 4-1 on goals from Owen MacDermid and Evan Amirault. before Ryland Skerry for the Blazers and Brandon Rideout and Marcus Tench replied for the Lumberjacks.  The last fur goals in the second came in a span of 2:00 minutes. 
 
James Cameron then scored for the Pens before Tench came back with his 2nd of he game for Sackville.  Dawson LaPLante added a Blazers goal with 59 seconds remaining to make the final 7-4 South Shore.  Also assisting the Lumberjacks were Kyle MacIntyre besides his goal helped with 3 assists with Luke Crotty, Owen MacDermid, Brennan Coleman and Nate Pearson also collected two assists to go along with their respective goals.
