Bulldogs edge Strait while two other games end with lopsided results

Following last weekend’s sole game to kick off 2026 in the NSJHL, play resumed with a vengeance Friday night on three fronts. There was a fierce defensive battle in Port Hawkesbury as the Antigonish Bulldogs eked out a 3-2 win over the Strait.

 
Cohan Hickey’s power-play goal opened the scoring for the Strait before the Bulldogs replied back with a power-play marker from Daniel Chaisson and another from Kellen Fuller to put the Bulldogs up 2-1 after twenty minutes.  Cole Campbell’s power-play marker tied the game in the second before Luc Legere scored with under five minutes left in regulation to provide the Bulldogs with a 3-2 verdict.  Antigonish outshot the Strait 35-31.  Logan McGrath added a pair of assists for the Bulldogs while Hickey for the Strait and Legere both added assists to go along with their goals.  The Bulldogs are now 10-8-1 for 21 points and only 3 back of second place Pictou who travel to Cape Breton this evening for an 8:00 p.m. start with the host Jr. Miners.   Elsewhere Friday night in two explosive games:

The Colts took no prisoners as they roared out of the gates scoring five goals apiece in the opening two periods leaving the Oxen with little room to catch up.  The five Colts goals in the first who improved to 19-3-0 with the win saw them lead 5-4 after the opening frame.  Goal scorers were Cooper Puma, Jack Dulong, Matthew Walker with his on the power-play while also adding 3 assists. Cody Garcin took over the league goal scoring lead by adding the fifth marker for his 21st of the season.  He would later score another goal while also collecting a pair of assists.  Jacob Trioni-Willis completed the scoring in the first for the Colts.  Brady MacKenzie, Reese Smith with a pair, Kayden Kuryluk who also added a pair of assists and Dylan Manning who began his four point night with the final goal for the Oxen in the opening period.
 
The Colts simply never let up as they scored five more times in the second to the Oxen’s pair of goals and then traded goals with the Oxen in the third to complete their 11-7 win.  For the Colts, their duration of scoring came from Trioni-Willis with his second of the night, Finn Merritt with a pair of power-play goals to go along with an assist, Nolan Stevens who also added three assists and Connor MacPhee on the power-play and he also added three assists.  Garcin’s second goal of the game came with the Colts playing short-handed.  For the Oxen, their remaining goals came from Matthew Shields who connected for his second of the evening and Dylan Manning who also collected three assists as did William Davison on the evening.  The Colts outshot Windsor 46-34.  The Oxen saw their record drop to 9-10-2.

It was a runaway freight train in Lantz as the Penguins improved to 12-7-1 with an 11-1 thumping of the Brookfield Elks.  Connor Stewart, Nick Morin and Noah Maccallum all tallied a pair for the Penguins with single markers going to Finley Diab, Nik Xidos, Chris Caissie, Jayson Hanson and Finn Morris. Xidos also collected three assists on the evening while Chris Caissie and Maccallum each finished with a pair of assists.  The lone Brookfield goal came off the stick of Mitchell King.  Noah Comeau also collected three assists for the Pens.  East Hants was all over the Elks who fell to 3-17-1, outshooting them 47-14.
