Scotians score late and move into first place tie with Eskasoni

The Pictou County Scotians John-Kay Martin tallied with five seconds remaining in regulation play to give Pictou a 4-3 win over the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles and move into a tie with the Eagles for first place in the Sid Rowe Division.  Both teams have 22 points but the Eagles do have a pair of games in hand on the Scotians.

 
Martin’s winning goal came only 34 seconds after the Eagles knotted the score at 3-3 on a goal from Mitchell Gould.  The Scotians led 1-0 after twenty minutes on a power-play goal from Drew MacKinnon.  Eskasoni scored a pair in the second to take a 2-1 lead going into the third.  The goals coming off the sticks of Matthew Burke and Keagan Geizer.
 
Will Brown and Chris Jorden put the Scotians up 3-2 in the third  before the Eagles tied the game at 3-3 with 39 seconds left in regulation.  Eli James stopped 37 of the 40 shots he faced in the Pictou net as the Scotians were outshot 40-33.  Lane Lochead now has a commanding lead in the scoring race as he now has 16 goals and 33 assists for 49 points, 16 ahead of Chris Caissie of the East Hants Penguins and the Colts Liam Andrews who are tied with 33 points.  Lochead assisted on two goals Sunday night and on five of the six goals scored by the Scotians in Friday night’s win in Windsor.  Elsewhere Sunday:

The Strait Pirates led through two periods by scores of 2-1 and 3-2 but the Blazers unloaded for three unanswered goals in the third from James Cameron, Dawson LaPlante’s second goal of the game and Xavier Rivard’s second goal of the contest into an open net with under a minute to play.  Cadyn Power, Cole Campbell and Blake MacDonnell replied for the Strait who were outshot by Sackville 47-46.  Liam McGilip stopped 43 of 46 shots in the Strait nets but was taken out for an extra attacker with 1:02 to play.  Braeden Sheikh stopped 43 of 46 shots in the Blazers net.
 
Sackville improved to 6-11-0 while the Strait are now 6-11-1.
