Colts simply keep winning......Bulldogs squeak by Elks

The Brookfield Elks gave it everything they had and then more but still came up on the short-end of a 3-1 score at the hands of the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs Saturday afternoon in Brookfield.  Three of the game’s four goals were scored in the opening period as Daniel Chaisson an Kellen Fuller put the Bulldogs in front 2-0 before Jack Piper scored the lone Elks goal of the game with only three seconds to play in the first.

 
That was all the scoring in the game until Ryder Iatan put one into an empty-net with 13 seconds left in regulation for the Bulldogs.  The Bulldogs now 9-7-1 but still a point back of second place Pictou in the Rowe Division outshot the Elks 51-45 as Kieran Walker turned away 44 of 45 shots in the Antigonish nets and Logan Wallace turning aside 49 of 51 shots in the Elks net.  Elsewhere Saturday:

Matthew Walker and Jacob Train-Willis both scored twice and added a pair of assists to pace the Colts to their ninth straight win, 7-2 over the Windsor Oxen.  The Colts are now 15-3-0 while the Oxen fell to 7-9-2.  Walker’s two goals put the Colts up 2-0 in the first.  Troini-Willis made it 3-0 and then 6-1.  Other Colt goal scorers were Liam Andrews with his 18th of the season short-handed, Nolan Stevens who also added a pair of assists and Cody Garcin with his 17th marker of the year.  William Hartnell and Wilson Davison were the Windsor goal scorers who were outshot 41-34 by the Colts.  Brandt Whitelaw collected a trio of assists for the Colts.  The Colts now lead the Lumberjacks by four points in the race for first in the Fox Division but the  13-2-0 South Shore Lumberjacks do hold three games in hand on the Colts.

The Blazers Ryland Skerry scored twice within a span of 13 seconds late in the second period to put Sackville in front of the hometown Jr. Miners 5-2 and they never looked back winning 7-2 and improving their record to 6-11-0 on the season.  Other Blazers goal scorers were Xavier Rivard, Jonah Rivard, Josh Nicholson, Adam Maillet and Logan Mitchell.  For the 4-14-0 Jr. Miners, Tyler Seymour, Ty Oliver and Garrett MacIntosh replied.  Sackville will conclude their Cape Breton weekend road trip with a game in Port Hawkesbury Sunday afternoon while Eskasoni and Pictou collide in Trenton in the battle for first place in the Rowe Division.
