Spence scored 4, Lochead collects 5 assists in Pictou win.......Colts secure 8th straight win

The Pictou County Scotians were severely outplayed by the Windsor Oxen in the opening period and allowed the Oxen far too many scoring opportunities, but, they still managed to defeat the Oxen 6-5 at the John Paris Jr. Rink in Windsor Friday evening.  The Oxen outshot the Scotians 58-29 including 26-10 in the first period and 18-8 in the third period but with the win, Pictou won their 10th game in 19 starts and closed to within two points of the first place Eskasoni Jr. Eagles in the Sid Rowe Division.  Wyatt Spence scored four of the six goals for Pictou and the League’s Top Scorer Lane Lochead assisted on five of the six Scotian goals.

The two teams were tied 1-1 after the opening period as Cam Walsh opening the game’s scoring for the Oxen finishing off on a 2 on 1 with Scott Hartnell.  Laughlin Levy and William Davison missed making it 2-0 Oxen as Davison missed a wide-open net to the right of Pictou goalie Eli James.  Spence then scored the first of his four goals as he went in practically two on none and put the puck past Kehlan Munroe in the Windsor net.  Davison then tipped a shot from Reese Smith of the Oxen only to see James make an outstanding save.  Daeshawn Fletcher then missed in close for Windsor after taking a rebound on a shot from the point.
Other golden Windsor scoring opportunities in the first came with a pass from Davison to Jacob Gerhardt who missed a wide-open net, Davison on a crisp wrist shot that James stood strong on and  Micah Tucker with a nice rush for Windsor and yet another key save by James.

In the second period with the Oxen killing off a penalty, Spence scored his second putting a shot from the blue-line into the top right-hand net of Oxen goalie Munroe.  Mathis George then went in alone and Munroe made a great save for Windsor.  It stayed 2-1 Pictou until Aidan MacLeod tied the game at 2-2 for Windsor from 15 feet in front of James after taking a nice pass from behind the net.  Pictou went into the dressing room with a 3-2 lead after two periods when Elias Loeppky scored from the right face-off circle with a moderate wrist shot beating Munroe clean.  Wyatt Spence missed getting what would have turned out to be his fifth goal of the game as he missed a great chance 10 feet in front of the Oxen net.

The third period began with a pair of Oxen goals 42 seconds apart from Dylan Manning and Aidan MacLeod with his second of the night.  Manning came around the net and snuck the puck in behind the Pictou net before MacLeod scored from close in before the third was 1:30 old.  Pictou then tied it 4-4 when Camden Burgess scored from close in front of the net.  The Oxen then went up 5-4 on a goal from Will Shields as he took a fantastic pass from Dylan Manning and Micah Tucker and scored on a second rebound in a bang-bang play in front of James.  Wyatt Spence then scored his third and fourth goals of the evening in the final 7:19 with his winning goal coming as he skated in front of the Windsor net with 2:28 showing on the clock as he let a back-handed shot go to put the Scotians up 6-5.  The four goals now give Spence a total of 14 on the season.  With 5:18 remaining in regulation and the game still tied at 5-5, the Oxen did everything but score as they were all over the Pictou net forcing James to make spectacular saves including a dynamite one with 3:28 remaining that would have put the Oxen up 6-5.  Windsor outshot Pictou 18-8 in the final 20 minutes.  With the loss, the Oxen fell below .500 again to 7-8-2 entering their game in Shearwater against the Colts Saturday evening.  Elsewhere Friday:
