Brookfield Elks may surprise in 25-26

Brookfield Elks Head Coach Phil Lynds said today, “Coming off a season when your team loses 13 one-goal games and another 3 or 4 by two goals, it simply shows we can play great hockey, but we need to be more consistent in the game’s final 4-5 minutes when so many of those losses transpired.

He described the team’s defence as being more than adequate, but despite the many one-goal losses, our club was one of the lowest scoring teams in the NSJHL in 24-25.

The Elks' top offensive line of Jackson Spraggon, Jack Piper, and Bryson Currie played tremendously last season, and we have now set out to improve offensively in more ways than our # 1 line.

When Lynds was asked how this was happening, he replied, “It is great that Jack Piper and Jackson Spraggon have spoken to a few individuals from their university in Halifax, informing them of what a great place Brookfield is to play.”  Lynds added, “Our feeder system at home is improving immensely with kids wanting to play for the Elks when their minor careers are over.”

The Elks feel confident with their goaltending and the return of Caleb Oulton, along with Cole Echlin, who was recently released by the Amherst Ramblers of the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

On defence, Lynds said, “We are quite anxious to see what Cadyn Paris can bring to us on defence, as he is another recent cut of the Ramblers.

The Elks will soon be ready to show what fans can expect when they open the regular season Sunday, Sept 14, in Pictou against the County Scotians.  The Elks will play eight of their first ten games on the road, awaiting ice at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex in Brookfield.  After Pictou, the Elks will make stops in East Hants, Sackville, Windsor, and the South Shore before opening at home on Oct 11 against the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles.
