Luke MacPhee shines for Colts.....two division finals could be decided tonight....or Games 7 Wednesday night

Two teams face must wins tonight in their divisional final games or that will be all for them in this Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League season.

The Eskasoni Jr. Eagles facing a must win or go home affair in Antigonish Friday evening triumphed 5-2 over the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs to force a sixth game in their Rowe Divisional Final in Eskasoni tonight.  The Eagles started the game aggressively and outscored the Bulldogs 3-2 in the first period and then kept the home team scoreless the remainder of the way.

Nicholas Basque-Christmas who has played sparingly with the Jr. Eagles over the past two seasons, scored the game winner for Eskasoni.  Kendrick Marshall scored a pair of power-play goals with one in the second and one in the third for the Jr. Eagles.  Keegan O’Neill and Marcellus Francis along with Christmas put Eskasoni up 3-0 in the first before Will Normandeau and Owen Flemming scored for the Bulldogs in front of a huge hometown audience.  The Eagles outshot the Bulldogs 36-21.  The Bulldogs still have a 3-2 lead in the Best-of-Seven series with Game 6 scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Saturday night in Eskasoni.  If a seventh game is necessary, it will be played in Antigonish Wednesday night.

The Lumberjacks have played so well at different times in this series, yet so terrible at other times.  Friday night in Shearwater was one of those terrible performances as the Colts scored a 7-0 win to take a 3-2 lead in their Fred Fox Division Final with game 6 in Bridgewater Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.  The Colts took period leads of 2-0 and 5-0 and outshot the Lumberjacks 47-39.

Luke MacPhee scored twice and recorded a pair of assists for the Colts while sharp shooter Liam Andrews also recorded a pair of goals.  Other Colt goal scorers were Connor Macphee, Finn Merrit and Cooper Puma who also recorded an assist.  Will Cole recorded the shut-out for the Colts who are now on the verge of advancing to their second consecutive provincial championship series with a win Saturday.  If a seventh game is necessary, it will be played back in Shearwater Wednesday night.

These same two clubs battled it out last season in a seven game division final with the Colts winning the decisive game and then going on to win the provincial championship.
