The locomotive which steam-rolled through the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre Friday night in Bridgewater, rapidly ran out of gas enroute back to C.F.B. Shearwater for Saturday night’s third game in the Fred Fox Divisional Final.

Jack Piper’s goal with only 16 seconds left in regulation carried the South Shore Lumberjacks to a 4-3 win and a 2-1 lead in their Best-of-Seven series.  The win for the Lumberjacks came after they had been roasted 9-1 at home Friday night.

Brennan Coleman tallied the lone goal for the South Shore in the first period and the Lumberjacks have now won both their series games on the road.  Game 4 returns to Bridgewater Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

Kyle MacIntyre’s goal made it 2-0 Lumberjacks before Liam Andrews and Cooper Puma tied the game for the Colts at 2-2 by the end of the second period.  Andrews goal proved to be a short-handed one and Puma’s came on the power-play.

In the third, Will Cook put the Lumberjacks back on top 3-2 before Sam Ryan tied it for the Colts with about five minutes left in regulation.  It then required Piper’s late-game heroics to give the Lumberjacks the win.  Camden McKenzie recorded a pair of assists for the Colts while MacIntyre also recorded an assist for the South Shore to go along with his goal.  Piper also had an assist.

Kegan Greencorn resumed to his usual brilliant self after a rough outing at home Friday night as he turned away 33 of 36 shots for the winners, who were outshot 36-31 by the Colts.  After Sunday’s game, the series returns to C.F.B. Shearwater for Game 5 Friday night at 7:30.  If a 6th game becomes necessary, it will be played in Bridgewater Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.

Ethan Chisholm who has been outstanding in the Bulldog nets throughout the playoffs turned away 29 of 30 shots while Darian MacInnis stopped 24 of the 26 shots fired by Antigonish at him.

The game was a chippy affair with 32 of the 34 penalty minutes assessed in the first called in the final 2:40 of the period with two fighting majors and 2 misconducts assessed along with a minor penalty.

In the second, 52 penalty minutes were assessed including two majors and two game misconducts.  The Bulldogs return home for Game 3 tonight in Antigonish before Game 4 shifts back to Eskasoni Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
