Lumberjacks rally for OT win....Bulldogs also win by a goal

For the third time combined in regular season and playoffs this season, the Capstone Colts and South Shore Lumberjacks required extra time.  The latest came in their Fred Fox Division Final Opener in Shearwater Wednesday night as Kyle MacIntyre scored 19 seconds after the face-off in the first overtime period to provide the South Shore Lumberjacks with a 3-2 win.

The Colts game got off to a great start as they scored a pair of goals 15 seconds apart in the opening period to take a 2-0 lead over a team which chased them all season for first place but could never catch them.  The Lumberjacks finished with a 3-2-0 regular season record versus the Colts while Capstone went 2-1-2 outscoring the Lumberjacks 26-21.  Cooper Puma and Jacob Troini-Willis were the first period marksmen for the Colts.  Jack Piper brought the Lumberjacks to within a goal at the end of the second period before Brennan Coleman tied the game with four minutes remaining in regulation.  The Colts outshot the Lumberjacks 29-28 with Carter Aguirre turning back 25 of 28 shots and Kegan Greencorn 27 of 29 in the South Shore nets.

Game 2 in this Best-of-Seven series goes Friday night in Bridgewater at 7:00 p.m. with Game 3 back in Shearwater Saturday night starting at 6:30 p.m.  Elsewhere in the Rowe Divisional Final:

Antigonish   4      Eskasoni    3

The game was tied 2-2 after forty minutes but the Jr. Bulldogs scored twice in a span of 2:16 in the first half of the third period and hung on to take a 1-0 Best-of-Seven series lead over the Jr. Eagles, winning 4-3.

Owen Buckley opened the game’s scoring for the Jr. Eagles before Colby Fleet sent the teams to their dressing rooms tied at 1-1 after he scored with only 16 seconds left in the opening frame.

Gavin Clarke put Antigonish up 2-1 in the second before Keegan O’Neill tied the game again, this time at 2-2 before the second period concluded.

The two Antigonish goals in the third were tallied by Will McKinnon and Cameron Bell before Marcellus Francis tallied for the Jr. Eagles with 1:47 remaining in regulation but it was as close as Eskasoni could get for the duration.  Owen Chisholm collected a pair of assists for the winners while Arlen Denny did likewise for Eskasoni.  The Bulldogs outshot the Jr. Eagles 38-32 with Ethan Chisholm continuing his strong play for the Bulldogs in their nets and Andrew Burke stopping 34 of 38 shots in the Eskasoni nets.

These two clubs went down to the final night of the regular season before Antigonish overtook the Jr. Eagles for first place in the Rowe Division.  During the regular season, Antigonish went 4-2-0 while the Eagles were 2-4-0 with Eskasoni outscoring the Bulldogs 24-23 in their six games.

Game 2 in this series goes Saturday night at the Dan K. Stevens Memorial Arena in Eskasoni at 7:00 p.m. before swimming back to Antigonish for Game 3 Sunday night.
