Lumberjacks one win away from advancing

One team (Pictou) has been eliminated from the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Semi-Finals, a third team joined the near elimination ranks Monday night in Lantz as the East Hants Penguins fell 4-3 to the South Shore Lumberjacks.

South Shore came out aggressively and took a 4-0 lead early in the second only to see the Penguins nearly fight back only to lose 4-3.  Nolan Wilkie, Jack Piper and Kyle MacIntyre all scored in the opening period with Piper and MacIntyre scoring 2:07 apart as the first period wound to a close.

Leo MacLean’s power-play goal put the Lumberjacks up 4-0 early in the second before the Penguins began to mount their comeback and trail 4-3 after forty minutes.  Chris Caissie and then  a pair of goals from Finley Diab in a span of 35 seconds with under five minutes to play pulled East Hants within one entering the third period.  Unfortunately that was all the scoring the Pens could muster despite outshooting the Lumberjacks 37-24 and playing with an empty net for the game’s final 1:17.  Noah Comeau assisted on all three Penguins goals in a losing cause.  Game 4 shifts back to Bridgewater Friday night at 7:00 p.m.  If a 6th game becomes necessary, it will be played in Lantz Saturday night at 8:00 p.m.  If the Pens could somehow come up with a pair of wins, the 7th and deciding game swings back to Bridgewater Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

The Windsor Oxen and Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates both face elimination Wednesday night.  The Oxen trail the Capstone Colts 3-0 in their Fox Divisional Semi-Final and the Strait trails Antigonish 3-0.
