Eskasoni eliminates Pictou in 4 straight

Eskasoni eliminates Pictou in 4 straight

The Eskasoni Jr. Eagles have advanced to the Sid Rowe Division Final after their 3-2 win in Trenton Sunday night over the Pictou County Scotians.  The Jr. Eagles swept the Scotians in four straight, winning three games in overtime.

 
Sunday night, Jesse Cathcart’s goal with 1:08 left in the first sudden-death overtime provided the Eagles with their win after having won in overtime Saturday evening in Eskasoni.  Sam Gracie and Kendrick Marshall were the other Eskasoni goal scorers, for Marshall it was his fifth of the series to go along with two assists.  Marcellus Francis recorded 2 assists giving him seven in the series.  Eskasoni had won previously 3-2 and 5-4 in overtime and another in regulation time by the score of 5-3.  They outscored the County Scotians whose season is now complete 17-12 in the four games.  Chris Jorden scored both Pictou goals.  Both goaltenders played exceptionally well Sunday evening with Darian MacInnis stopping 35 of the 37 shots directed his way while Eli James of the Scotians stopped 39 of 42 shots.
 
Eskasoni now awaits the winner of the Antigonish-Port Hawkesbury series which the Bulldogs presently lead 3-0, to see who they will meet in the Rowe Division Final and the right to advance to the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Championship Series.  Game 4 in this series is scheduled for Wednesday night in Antigonish.
 
One game on tap Monday night with the South Shore Lumberjacks lading the East Hants Penguins 2-1 in their Best-of-Seven Fred Fox Division Semi-Final travelling to Lantz for an 8:00 p.m. start.
