Gould connects for 5 as Jr. Eagles rout Strait

It will be the ‘Showdown at the O.K. Corral” Thursday evening at the Dan K. Stevens Memorial Arena in Eskasoni as the Jr. Eagles and Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs play the final regular season game of the 25-26 schedule and in the process determine who will finish first in the Sid Rowe Division, while also earning a first-round bye in the preliminary round of the playoffs.

In Port Hawkesbury Tuesday night, the Strait Pirates were manhandled by the Jr. Eagles to the tune of 8-2 as Mitchell Gould scored five times, Marcellus Francis twice and Zander Billard a single marker.  Eskasoni dominated play outshooting the Strait 66-27.  The five markers by Gould lifted his season total to 12.  Sam Gracie, Keegan O’Neill and Pierce Hutchings all helped out the Eagles with each recording a pair of assists.  For the Strait, Landon MacIntosh notched his 16th goal of the season while recording an assist while Carlin Samson did likewise for the Pirates.  The Jr. Eagles led 4-0 and 7-1 after the opening two periods.

Eskasoni now needs only a win, whether it be in regulation or overtime to clinch first in the Rowe Division and a first-round bye in the playoffs.  A win would give them 21 and 42 points while for Antigonish an overtime loss would also leave them with 42 points but a record of 20-8-2, one less win than the Jr. Eagles.
