Bulldogs move 3 points ahead of Jr. Eagles in race for first in Rowe Division

The Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs are now three points up on the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles in the race for first place and a first-round bye in the opening round of the playoffs following their 4-2 win over the Pictou County Scotians in Trenton Sunday night.  The only way for Eskasoni to pull ahead of the Jr. Bulldogs is to win their game Tuesday night in Port Hawkesbury and pull of another win in their showdown with the Jr. Bulldogs in the league’s final regular season game of the year Thursday Feb 19th in Eskasoni.  Both Eskasoni wins must come in regulation time.

Sunday in Trenton, the Scotians who outshot the Jr. Bulldogs 33-32 were tied 1-1 after the opening period after Sam Maddison tied it for the Scotians after Owen Forsythe continued his red-hot scoring by putting the Jr. Bulldogs up 1-0.

In the second, Luc Legere who also garnered an assist gave Antigonish a 2-1 lead after two periods.

In the third, the Jr. Bulldogs Brody MacPherson and Logan McGrath put Antigonish up 4-1 before Drew MacKinnon who also garnered an assist scored late for the Scotians.

The Scotians concluded their regular season Sunday and finished the year in third place in the Rowe Division with a record of 16 wins, 12 losses and 2 losses in either overtime or a shoot-out.

They will now play the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates in a Best-of-Five Preliminary round to open the 25-26 Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoffs.  That series is expected to begin either Friday Feb 20 or Sunday Feb 22nd.

Three games on tap on the Holiday Monday with Brookfield visiting Bridgewater for the two teams final regular season games of the season, East Hants will be in Sackville for a 7:30 start and Port Hawkesbury will play the Jr. Miners in Membertou.
