Lochead records 4 points to pace Pictou win

Lane Lochead stole the show as he has done on more than one occasion this year, scoring two goals and collecting a pair of assists leading the Pictou County Scotians to a 6-2 win over the Jr. Miners in Trenton Thursday night in a Nova Scotia Junior Hockey Make-Up game.

Lochead now has 19 goals and 41 assists on the season for 60 points and remains the league’s top point scorer.  He has essentially clinched the title as he leads Cody Garcin of the Capstone Colts by 7 points with the Colts having only a single game remaining in their regular season while the Scotians have two including a road game in Port Hawkesbury tonight at 7:30 p.m.

The Scotians scored three times in both the first and third periods Thursday night with Sam Maddison who also added a pair of assists, Amias Crossman with the first of his two goals in the contest and Lochead with the first of his two.  Brady Matheson had the lone first period goal for the Jr. Miners.

The second period was scoreless but Lochead put the Scotians up 4-1 with his second of the game in the third before Owen Hickey made it 5-1 Pictou.  Keagan Corbett scored 1:01 after Hickey’s goal to bring the Jr. Miners back to within 3 goals but with 1:58 to play, Amias Crossman scored his second of the game to make the final 6-2 Scotians.  There were only three minor penalties called the entire game with Pictou outshooting the Jr. Miners 58-37.

The Scotians now 15-11-2 have two regular season games left, their final one is a home game against Antigonish Sunday evening in Trenton.  The Jr. Miners meanwhile are 5-21-2 and also have two regular season games remaining in their 25-26 schedule.
