Seymour nets third hat-trick of season to pace Jr. Miners

Tyler Seymour of the Jr. Miners paced his team to a stunning upset of the 19-9-0 Eskasoni Jr. Eagles at the Dan K. Stevens Memorial Arena in Eskasoni Wednesday night in a make-up Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League contest.  Seymour paced his 5-20-2 team to a 5-2 win by recording his third hat trick of the season, giving him a total of 18 goals and 20 assists for 38 points.  His earlier hat-tricks this season took place Nov 1st at home versus Brookfield and on Dec 12th in Windsor against the Oxen.

Seymour’s goals came in the second period when he scored one to give his team a 3-1 lead and two in the third when he put the Jr. Miners up 4-1 and then 5-2.  The Jr. Miners despite taking 12 penalties including 4 misconducts compared to the Jr. Eagles 3 minors and 1 misconduct were able to keep the Jr. Eagles from enhancing their first place lead in the Rowe Division over the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs who currently trail the Jr. Eagles by a single point.

Eskasoni did outshoot the Jr. Miners 48-43 but Lucas Fraser was stellar in the Jr. Miner nets turning away 46 of 48 shots compared to Andrew Burke of the Jr. Eagles who stopped 39 of 43 shots with the other Jr. Miner goal being an empty netter.

Brady Matheson scored the other two Jr. Miner goals while Kendrick Marshall and Keegan O’Neill replied for the Jr. Eagles.

The Jr. Miners are on the road for another make-up game tonight in Pictou against the County Scotians in Trenton before returning home to play the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs Saturday night in Membertou.

With Ole Man Winter playing such havoc with the League Schedule, League Officials extended the end of the regular season to Thursday Feb 19 yesterday to allow teams time to schedule additional make-up games enabling all teams to play the mandated 30 game schedule of the NSJHL.
