Lumberjacks still in race for first in Fox Div.
It goes without saying the Capstone Colts would love to clinch first place in the Fred Fox Division but following the South Shore Lumberjacks 5-3 win over the Brookfield Elks in Southern Colchester County last night, the job became that much harder for the Colts.

The Colts have one regular season game remaining Friday night in Windsor against the Oxen and a win would give them a record of 23-5-2 for 48 points.  The Lumberjacks meanwhile have two regular season games left, in East Hants Friday and at home against Brookfield on the holiday Monday afternoon.  If the Lumberjacks should win both games, they would finish 24-6-0 for 48 points but because they would have won one more game than the Colts, the Lumberjacks would secure first place.  The Colts could still clinch first with a win Friday and a Lumberjack loss in East Hants.

As for Tuesday night’s game, the Lumberjacks outshot the Elks 59-27 but Elks goaltender Logan Wallace turned away 55 of 59 shots, keeping the Elks in the game throughout.  Brennan Coleman put the Lumberjacks up 1-0 after the first period and then scored his second of the game to put the South Shore up 3-1 in the second.  Prior to Coleman’s 2nd goal, Aiden Glad tied the game at 1-1 for the Elks before Liam Sylvester put the South Shore in front 2-1.  Coleman’s 2nd goal was a power-play marker as was Leo MacLean’s who put the South Shore ahead 4-1 before Brodie Ellis replied for the Elks to put the home town team down by a pair entering the third.

In the third, Owen Cleary scored for the Elks to make it a one goal game at 4-3 before MacLean with his second of the night put one into an empty net with 22 seconds to play in regulation.  Coleman’s two goals now leaves him one shy of 20 on the season.
