Twolan 3 point night for Bulldogs

It will be do or die for the South Shore Lumberjacks in what is expected to be another full house in Bridgewater Wednesday night after the Lumberjacks dropped a close 3-2 game to Antigonish Friday night before nearly 1000 fans jammed into the Antigonish Arena.

The Bulldogs went in front 1-0 on Ethan Twolan’s goal with 8:09 to play in the opening period.  Assists on the goal were picked up by Venel Campbell and Bradley Armstrong. The Lumberjacks the game at 1 with 3:53 gone in the second period as Nolan Greenlaw scored on the power play with assists from Aaron Lane and Joe Osborne.  Twolan then came back with his second of the game for Antigonish mid-way through the second period to go up 2-1 before Jack Hayne with assists from Twolan and Brodie MacDonald scored with 2:55 left in the second to give Antigonish a 3-1 lead entering the third.  However it was all the scoring the Bulldogs would do as the Lumberjacks who started the third period on the power play saw Camden Pellerine score only 54 seconds into the final period of regulation.

The Lumberjacks who were outshot 40-26 in the game pressed hard in the closing stages missing two great opportunities but could not come up with the equalizer as they lost 3-2.  Penalties have varied somewhat through the five games but with 4:29 remaining in the second period Friday night, it became somewhat testy as Brandon Rideout and Daniel Kline of the Lumberjacks were sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct and roughing.  Antigonish’s Sam Grant drew two separate minor for roughing and Will Fitzsimmons another for roughing.  A mere 11 seconds later the Lumberjacks Brennan Coleman was sent off for tripping that was followed by Owen Juurlink of the Bulldogs being assessed a cross-checking penalty 32 seconds later.  In the final 36 seconds of the second period, the Bulldogs Venel Campbell was caught for spearing and was handed a double minor while Tyler Thomas of the Lumberjacks was assessed a minor for roughing.

Fans are advised to get their tickets early this week prior to Wednesday’s game as the Lumberjacks will be looking to force a 7th and deciding game in this Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Championship Series Friday night April 19 in Antigonish at 7:30 p.m.  Through five games in this series, the Bulldogs have outscored the South Shore 17-15.
